I am a contemporary artist based in Washington, DC, working in painting, sculpture, and mixed media. Many years spent in Europe, the Middle East and Asia have given me a broad perspective on art and culture.

Working in response to impressions taken from nature and social/political culture, I layer ideas and materials in open unexpected ways. I’m drawn to found object and to visual possibilities that might otherwise go unnoticed. By bringing unlikely elements into relation, I create work that carries emotional charge and humor–and that, at times, surprises even me.

I experience artmaking as a process of intimate, trial and error sense-making where things that don’t belong together ironically make sense.
